This Pendant
depicts the Buddha in Walking Pose (Lila).
The images of the Walking Buddha are unique to the 13-14th
centuries in Thailand.
After gaining
enlightenment through meditation, Shakyamuni, the historic Buddha,
devoted his life to teaching others the path to salvation. The
Walking Buddha is a representation of him as a wandering
teacher, with one hand raised in a symbolic gesture meaning fear
not.
This image
is elegant, tranquil yet moving and flowing. The undulating, flowing
curves seen here are typical of the classic Thai Buddha
style, which emphasized an elongated body with simple curves.
